Short and Sweet #116 – Accepting What Is

Do you have difficulty dealing with the instability of life? Does life stress you out? Are you anxious because things just do not seem to be going your way? When life feels like a struggle it is because we want things to be different from what they are and we are resisting the moment. Feeling this way is usually rooted in fear; fear that the result will not be what we want. Life is very hard when we cannot accept what is and live in the moment.

How do we live in the moment and accept things just the way they are? The foundation for the answer to this question and many other questions like it is awareness. Through awareness, we can become more conscious of our thoughts, words and actions and this leads to awakening. Awareness is the key to waking up.

When we start to awaken, we can begin to recognize that our feelings about life are rooted in our conditioning or programming. We tend to want things to be different from what they are because we have been programmed to believe that things must be a certain way in order for us to be happy. Furthermore, we must have certain things in life to be happy.

When we can being to see that some of our beliefs are not true and recognize that no matter what happens we will be OK. That happiness, joy and love do not come from our circumstances but are at the very core of who we are. They are part of us and we must uncover them; they lie beneath the conditioning. Once we do then we can begin to see that everything always works out for our highest good; it is then and only then that we can begin to live in the moment.

We must know that everything is perfect just the way it is and that we are capable of handling whatever comes our way; why, because there is a purpose for everything that happens. Look back at your life and see that this is true, that there were times when you thought it was never going to get better. That you would never be happy again, have a relationship, find a job or just feel happy. However, you survived it all and not only survived it but you learned a great deal about yourself and life by going through it. You even feel stronger and more empowered from those experiences.

Remember that wanting your experience to be different from what it is only leads to suffering. It does not mean that you have to stay where you are in life it just means that you should not resist what is. By not resisting, you will have more energy to create what you want and because you are not suffering as much you will have more clarity to see the path in front of you. The next time you feel yourself resisting what is, stop your resistance; open up to the opportunities and possibilities brought by that moment, even if it is only to stop resisting.
