From the moment of conception, we are being influenced by our past lives and the present conditioning begins imprinting who we will be in the future. As we grow, this conditioning becomes anchored in while more input is received from the people in our lives and society in general.
Many search for their purpose by looking outside themselves, thinking that their true purpose is to do something special in this world. Although this can be a byproduct of the journey back, our true purpose is to hear the calling of spirit through the soul. This can happen at any point during one’s life. Some of us come in hearing this call, while others have to face a challenge or difficult time before hearing it, and then there are those who only hear it on their deathbeds.
What is this calling? It is the calling to release the past and conditioning of the False-Self and to uncover the True-Self. What is the True-Self? Sue Monk Kidd says, “The True Self is not our creation, but God’s. It is the self we are in our depths. It is our capacity for divinity and transcendence.” When we can reach into our depths and connect with our True-Self, we can then live the life we were meant to and not the one we think we should be living. It is unfortunate that many people never get to experience this divine life, but end up being directed through life by the False-Self.
The beauty of creation is that no matter where you are in life, the True-Self is with you and ALWAYS accessible. It is up to each one of us to awaken to this calling by bringing more attention and awareness into our lives. Beginning to see this conditioning and starting to let go is as simple as paying attention to your breath or being present with the constant chatter of your mind, noticing what is says and reframing it for a higher intention. These are simple concepts, but not always easy to practice consistently, because it requires vigilance on our part and an unbending intention and desire to go deep and connect. Without this, you will be lost to the direction of the False-Self and this often brings suffering, loneliness and a feeling of disconnect from the world around you.
This does not have to be your life. Start from where you are and take one small step towards the divine being that you are. Know that this is your birthright and you cannot fail when you take the journey back to your True-Self. Separation is created by the False-Self, while oneness is all that there is. Therefore, when I say you cannot fail, I say it knowing that we are all part of the oneness called by many names, God, The Divine or The Creative Energy of the Universe. Take your pick or create your own, because in the end the name you choose or the belief you have does not matter. When all is said and done, the only relationship that matters is the one you have with your True-Self. It is the foundation for everything else in life and if you are right with it, all else will be right.
“People are like stained-glass windows, they sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” – Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
